Given our country's history that goes back centuries of discrimination based on income, race and gender when it comes to arrest, I find it hard to believe that it is even necessary for such a Supreme Court Ruling. I find it hard to rationalize that such a law with all the biases of law enforcement was even brought to a vote in any state let alone the state of California. DNA testing has a history of saving many from false arrests and convictions. Now it is being used to further the abuse of false arrests. In a time where policing the police is desperately needed, we find the police given more weapons against our freedoms. How long America are we going to tolerate abuse, our rights taken away by those sworn to protect and serve from local governance to Federal?
There are many false arrests in this country. Many of the false arrests have led to false imprisonment. The Miranda Rights were established because of this country’s history of falsely arresting and charging minorities. Yet we have not learned. Yet as rights are protected, there are those plotting to take away the protection through Jim Crow type tactics.
I have mentioned that this year, I reread the book “Nixon’s Piano.” It gives the history of our Presidents up to Clinton and their views and dealings on race. Nixon and Agnew were among the worse. The book begins with a piano playing duet by the two. Agnew plays the Black minstrel part. Nixon and his staff used the “N” word as a part of everyday speech. It was Nixon who began the current “tough on crime” campaign. As expected it was targeted against minorities in response to the protests of the Civil Rights Movement. It is not the first time a politician has used and abused the truth when it comes to crime in America to get elected. The current falsehood and scare campaign when comes to crime has escalated. The current escalation is to include all Americans.
